Scholarships

In addition to WSU scholarships, the Art Department offers departmental scholarship opportunities for freshman, transfer, and current students. See below for information on eligibility requirements, application deadlines, and portfolio requirements. 
 

New Student Scholarship Opportunities: 

We accept applications for all new student scholarships through the posted applications listed. See the listings below for criteria for each individual scholarship. 

Talent Scholarship Fund (Studio Arts) - Incoming Freshman
Eligibility: Any Michigan high school senior planning to specialize in a studio art area.
Amount: Award of approximately half tuition per academic year (fall and winter semesters). Renewable each year for a total of four years of baccalaureate study. 
Info: We accept Talent Scholarship Applications until November 1 of each year. This scholarship is awarded for the following academic year. Portfolio reviews are scheduled following the application deadline date.
 
Wilfred C. Becker Memorial Scholarship - Incoming Freshman
Eligibility: Any Michigan high school senior planning to specialize in a studio art area.
Amount: $1500. Renewable each year for a total of four years of baccalaureate study. 
Info: We accept Becker Memorial Scholarship Applications until November 1 of each year. This scholarship is awarded for the following academic year. Portfolio reviews are scheduled following the application deadline date.
 
James Pearson Duffy Transfer Student Scholarship - Incoming Transfer 
Eligibility: Any incoming transfer student whose chosen major of study is art, art history, design, or design and merchandising. 
Amount: Award of $4000 per academic year (fall and winter semesters). Renewable for one additional year of baccalaureate study. 
Info: We accept Duffy Transfer Scholarships until March 1 of each year. This scholarship is awarded for the following academic year. Students must upload a portfolio of artwork in order to be considered for this scholarship. 
 
 

Current Student Scholarship Opportunities:

The Department of Art and Art History has many scholarships available for our majors. Students can learn more about specific scholarships (departmental and university) and apply through AcademicWorks. Students can also explore other funding opportunities through the Office of Financial Aid.

To Browse Scholarships: 

  • Login to Academicworks with your Wayne State Access ID and Password
  • Go to "opportunities"
  • Select "all"
  • Choose "Show Filters"
  • Type in your major as the keyword
  • Read the requirements for the scholarship

To Appy For Scholarships:

  • Login to AcademicWorks with your Wayne State Access ID and Password
  • Complete the General Application and Submit
  • Complete the College of Fine, Performing & Communication Arts Application and Submit
  • You will be directed to the "Recommended Opportunities" where you will see "ApplyTo" opportunities and the system will determine what you qualify for
  • Select the scholarship you want to apply to and submit the application

The AcademicWorks application opens in October of each year with a March 1st deadline date. These scholarships are awarded for the following acadmemic year. Departmental scholarships will also require a portfolio review. 

Please note: Institutional funds such as the Warrior, Gold or Wayne State Promise awards have been funded in part by this scholarship offer. These award may replace or reduce these funds or other institutional dollars. In addition, the sum of all aid cannot exceed the financial aid cost of attendance.
