Student Organizations

Student organizations in the Department of Art and Art History offer opportunities for association with other art, art history and fashion majors outside the usual academic setting.  The organizations usually hold special activities, field trips and other events relating to each field.  Students are urged to participate in the student organizations because they provide an excellent opportunity to gain broadening experiences, including leadership positions.  Check the various bulletin boards for information regarding these organizations or make inquiries in the main art office, Room 150 Community Arts Building.  The student organizations are:

Art History Student Organization
Students are now gathering names of those interested in participating in the revival of this organization.  The proposed activities will involve study groups, outings to openings and other art related events, a greater involvement in the relations with the Detroit Institute of Arts and their events.  Students interested in participating in this organization should email the Undergraduate Art Advisor, Michele Porter.

Detroit Art Collective Student Art Organization
The newly reformed DArt Collective is an organization of students from the Fine Arts, Fashion Design, Art History, and Art Education majors on Wayne State's Campus.  Students participate annually in the Detroit Festival of the Arts and attend  gallery openings and visiting lectures.

Design and Merchandising Club
The Design & Merchandising Club is open to fashion design and merchandising majors as well as any WSU students interested in the fashion field. Activities include putting on fashion shows, sponsoring field trips and holding other special activities related to the fashion field.
