The James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History offers minors in the following areas:

Minor in Art

The minor offers students the opportunity to learn fundamental visual concepts and apply these in a studio setting. The minor also broadens understanding of artistic expression from the past to the present.

Minor Requirements: Students pursuing a Minor in Art must complete twenty-one credits, distributed as follows:

DRAWING choose one (3 credits)

  • ADR 1050 – Drawing I (3 cr)
  • ADR 1060 – Drawing II (3 cr)

CORE choose one (3 credits)

  • ACO 1200 – Surface Studio (3 cr)
  • ACO 1230 – Spatial Studio (3 cr)
  • ACO 1270 – Time Studio (3 cr)

ART HISTORY choose one (3 credits)

  • AH 1110 – Survey of Art History: Ancient through Medieval (3 cr)
  • AH 1120 – Survey of Art History: Renaissance through Modern (3 cr)
  •  AH 1130 – Global Arts of Africa (3 cr)

STUDIO ELECTIVES (12 credits)
In discussion with your art advisor, choose four studio electives.


 

Minor in Art History

The minor in Art History offers students the opportunity to study art as our human visual and physical record. Students will investigate the time and circumstances in which works of art were created as a way to understand their cultural meaning and significance.

Minor Requirements: Students pursuing a Minor in Art History must complete fifteen credits, distributed as follows:

ART HISTORY choose one (3 credits)

  • AH 1110 – Survey of Art History: Ancient through Medieval (3 cr)
  • AH 1120 – Survey of Art History: Renaissance through Modern (3 cr)
  • AH 1130 – Global Arts of Africa (3 cr)

ART HISTORY at 3000 Level and Above (12 credits)

Minor in Animation and Interactivity

The minor in Animation and Interactivity...

Minor Requirements: Students pursuing a Minor in Animation and Interactivity must complete 21 credits, distributed as follows:

ART HISTORY choose one (3 credits)

This minor offers students the opportunity to learn fundamental visual concepts in design and apply these in a studio setting. The minor also broadens understanding of creative expression from the past to the present.

Students must complete 21 credits as specified below:

Minor in Digital Art and Photography

This minor offers students the opportunity to supplement their major field of study with a rigorous investigation of digital art and photography. The program will provide a rich academic environment that will foster creativity and spur innovative thinking. The three required courses provide students with a deep understanding of the production of visual language in video, photography, and other time-based methods.  From this dynamic foundation, they will choose a line of study to more thoroughly investigate advanced photography techniques, interactive art, or 2D/3D animation in a fine arts context.

Digital Art and Photography Minor Requirements: Students must complete 18 credits, distributed as follows:

  • ACO 1270 – Time studio (3 cr)
  • APH 2400 – Introduction to Photography (3 cr)
  • ADA 2220 – Video Art (3 cr)

Minor in Art and Archaeology of the Ancient Mediterranean World

This minor offers students the opportunity to study the enormous impact of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome have had on later Western Culture. Courses in art history and archaeology of antiquity provide a broad exposure to the formats of the material (sculpture, painting, architecture, etc.).

Students must complete 3 credits from the following coursed:

  • AH 1110 –Survey of Art History: Ancient through Medieval (3 cr)

Students must complete 12 credits from the following courses:

  • AH 3070 – Art and Archeology of ancient Egypt
  • AH 3240 – Mythology in Greek Vase Painting
  • AH 5210 – Hellenistic Art
  • AH 5250 – Ancient Rome
  • AH 5260 – Classical Greek Art
  • AH 5270 – Roman Painting and Sculpture
  • AH 5310 – The Ancient City of Athens


 

Minor in Textile Design

This minor offers students the opportunity to learn textile design skills and apply these in a studio/industry setting. The minor provides course options in both print and woven textile design. The minor combines elements of the fibers and fashion programs.

Textile Design Minor Requirements: Students must complete 21 credits, distributed as follows:

  • ADR 1050 – Drawing I (3 cr)
  • ACO 1200 – Surface Studio (3 cr)
  • ADN 3100 – Design Process (3 cr)
  • AFA 3410 – Online Textile Design (3 cr)
  • AFI 2660 – Introduction to Fabric Print and Dyeing (3 cr)

Choose 1 from the following:

  • AFA 5430 – History of Costume (3 cr)
  • ADN 6320 – History of Modern Design I (3 cr)
  • ADN 6330 – History of Modern Design II (3 cr)

Complete 2 Design electives from any of the four design studio areas:  Fashion, Graphic, Industrial or Interior:

  • Design Studio Elective (3cr)
  • Design Studio Elective (3cr)
