Minor in Painting and Drawing

Students can explore media, techniques, and concerns of contemporary painting and drawing. The wide array of courses allows students to create an individual path, whether their interests lie in working from live models, in the landscape, with non-objective imagery, or in either alternative or traditional media in both painting and drawing. Students are invited to express their ideas and stretch their creativity.

Students must complete 21 credits as specified below:

  • ACO 1200 – Surface Studio (3 cr)
  • ACR 1050 – Drawing I (3 cr)
  • AH 1120 – Survey of Art History: Renaissance through Modern (3 cr)

Select two courses (6 credits) from the following:

  • ADR 2070 – Beginning Life Drawing (3 cr)
  • ADR 2130 – Intro to Alternative Drawing Methods and Materials (3 cr)
  • APA 2000 – Oil Painting I (3 cr)
  • APA 2110 – Watercolor Painting I (3 cr)
  • APA 2130 – Intro to Alternative Painting Media (3 cr)

Select two intermediate/advanced courses (6 credits) from the following:

  • ADR 3070 – Intermediate Life Drawing (3 cr)
  • ADR 5070 – Advanced Life Drawing (3 cr)
  • ADR 5080 – Landscape Drawing (3 cr)
  • ADR 5100 – Contexts of Studio Practice (3 cr) Or APA 5100 – Contexts of Studio Practice (3 cr)
  • ADR 5160 – Advanced Alternative Drawing Methods and Materials (3 cr)
  • APA 3000 – Oil Painting II (3 cr)
  • APA 3110 – Watercolor Painting II (3 cr)
  • APA 4000 – Oil Painting III (3 cr)
  • APA 5080 – Landscape Painting (3 cr)
  • APA 5110 – Watercolor Painting III (3 cr)
  • APA 5160 – Advanced Alternative Painting Media (3 cr)
  • APA 5200 – Advanced Mural Painting
