Industrial design BFA major, Cathy Sanders, wins MI Apple Trail art contest...

Celebrating the abundance of apple orchards and great farmers markets around the State of Michigan, Wayne State’s own Farmers Market (Cass Ave. in front of the Prentis Building on Wednesdays through the summer), with assistance from ArtsCorpsDetroit, sponsored MI Apple Trail 2011, a public art contest inviting proposals from student artists to try their hand at designing and decorating a 4-foot, 3-dimensional fiberglass apple. A prize of $250 (plus up to an additional $250 for materials) was awarded to BFA industrial design major, Cathy Sanders. Sanders' winning apple was unveiled Aug. 3 at the WSU Farmers Market and remains on view during the month of August.

Winning 4-foot fiberglass apples from markets around the state will be displayed in Detroit’s Eastern Market during the autumn harvest season and will be auctioned off at Eastern Market on October 14, with proceeds returned to support each sponsoring market. And there's an additional, state-wide contest that Sanders' apple now is competing in. Vote for the Wayne State apple here!
